Alma Mena, LCSW
I had the fortune to experience and grow up in many cultures during my formative years. I am fully bilingual in English and Spanish. I have resided in Austin for almost 20 years and am a mother of three boys attending an AISD dual language school, married to an educator, and share a close relationship with my parents and family. I strive to find work – life balance and find much joy in both.
Education and Experience
I received my undergraduate degree from Baylor University in Social Work and my Master’s degree in Social Work from New York University in May 2000. Since then I have been enjoying practicing in Austin. I have a background in medical settings, school settings, and behavioral health. I pursued my clinical license and have provided therapy to children and families using various modalities to best meet their needs focusing on strengths, culturally sensitive practice, systems, and most importantly client focused.
Professional development, training, and consultation is a very important part of my work to provide ethical, quality care, using best practice and research-based interventions. I am involved in our social work and mental health community in Austin and serve as Adjunct Professor at The University of Texas Steve Hicks school of Social Work.
I have been a board approved clinical supervisor for 7 years and offer supervision in English and Spanish for those pursuing their clinical license. I enjoy this part of my professional work very much.
I am committed to providing excellence in care as I would expect for my own children and family.
Feel free to contact me with any questions and I look forward to our work together.
