
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
It's an evidence-based modality developed by Dr. Shapiro. EMDR uses a patient's own rapid, rhythmic eye movements to reprocess a traumatic event. It connects the memory of a traumatic event to new information by rewiring negative thinking patterns and emotions. It also could work in enhancing positive patterns needed to manage anticipated future events. Part of the treatment includes building effective coping skills to manage difficult reactions that a person might experience. This approach is effective for children, teens and adults. EMDR offers a way to rewire the brain and find healing!

Sandtray Therapy
This modality allows the person to explore the self in a safe manner. The box is your world and the miniatures are your words to explore thoughts and feelings. Sometimes talk therapy is not enough, so, sandtray therapy offers another option to heal. A person recreates scenes of their own life to work on conflicts, obstacles and ultimately find acceptance of the self. It is a very powerful tool used to reflect our experience of the world. This approach can be used for children, teens and adults.

Somatic Experiencing®
SE is another trauma healing modality developed by Dr. Peter Levine. SE allows the body to complete the thwarted threat responses to a traumatic event experience, which leads to symptoms of PTSD and others. In an SE session, the client and therapist work in a collaborative way to support the nervous system in healing. SE also helps to increase body awareness and to develop capacity to tolerate and manage challenging or stressful moments.

Interpersonal Neurobiology
IPBN was developed by Dan Siegel and Allan Schore. Thanks to the advancement of science, we have a better understanding of the neurobiology of the brain. How is this relevant to therapy? It gives us hope that we can heal from our traumas because our brains are continuously growing throughout our lives. In other words, change is possible when we focus on building connections between our hearts, mind and body. Through meditation, the person is able to quiet their mind, to increase sense of body awareness and to find their inner wisdom.

Mindfulness
Mindfulness practice helps clients become in touch with their emotions and thoughts in a non-judgmental way. When we approach our thoughts and emotions through mindfulness, we learn to allow them to be a part of us without identifying with them and allowing them to change the self. From this perspective we are better able to find viable solutions to our problems that support and build the self. In children and adults, we find that mindfulness practice supports in calming heightened emotions while connecting with others.

Expressive Arts
Expressive Art techniques help clients’ express emotions that they may have a hard time expressing verbally. It is also a great way to channel heightened emotions through the body and out through any medium. The act of drawing/scribbling/making music/painting can reduce anxiety and help clients process how they are feeling in that moment.
