LPC-S, SEP, RPT®

Ana María Cabezas

I know what it's like to carry a story that shapes everything, even when no one else can see it.

As an immigrant from Ecuador, I came to the United States as a teenager and learned firsthand what it means to navigate between cultures, to feel the pull of where you come from and the push of where you are. My background as a mestiza, my family culture, and my own journey of healing have made me the therapist I am today. I don't just understand cultural complexity in theory. I've lived it.

I founded Austin Bilingual Therapy because I believe everyone deserves access to care that truly sees them, in a language that feels like home. What started with one small office has grown into a team of dedicated clinicians and a training ground for the next generation of therapists. As a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S), I also have the privilege of mentoring and supporting emerging clinicians as they develop their own therapeutic voice. It's work that matters deeply to me.

My approach draws on EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, play therapy, sandtray therapy, and interpersonal neurobiology. I've learned that there is no single approach that fits everyone, so I meet you where you are and we find the path together. I specialize in intergenerational trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and grief.

If you're ready to start, I'm honored to walk alongside you.

Education and Training

My graduate degree in Health Psychology helped me understand the psychological factors involved in behavior and physical health and illness.  Through my work with survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse, I discovered my true calling as a counselor.

Through advanced trainings in EMDR and SE, I developed the skills needed to support the mind-body in what is needed to move on from trauma. My work as a Registered Play Therapist brings me a lot of joy to see family dynamics at play and to foster change while building secure parent-child attachment, improving communication, and ultimately creating a deeper sense of love and respect for the members in a family. My trainings in Sandtray Therapy and Interpersonal Neurobiology training have opened my eyes to the world of attachment theory from the neurobiology perspective.

In sum, I offer an array of approaches as I understand that there is not a single counseling approach that fits all
