Counselor-in-Training, Internship Student

Beth Owen

I believe that healing happens in relationship, and that our bodies hold wisdom our minds haven't caught up to yet.

I work with couples and adults navigating trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, caregiver burnout, LGBTQIA+ challenges, and life transitions. My approach is grounded in Somatic Experiencing, which means I pay close attention to what's happening in your body as well as your mind.

I'm completing my graduate internship supervised by Ana Maria Cabezas, LPC-S, RPT, SEP.

Education and Training

My professional journey began in the Pacific Northwest, where I earned my bachelor's degree in psychology and sustainable agriculture from The Evergreen State College. Afterwards, I became a licensed massage therapist and then completed a trauma-informed yoga teacher training. Before entering the counseling field, I spent several years as a social worker with homeless veterans, where I learned that trauma is an event and not a life sentence of suffering.

I am a counselor in training through Lamar University's Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, and also training in Somatic Experiencing®, a body-informed approach to working with trauma.

For fun and self-care, I take my two dogs out hiking, camping, and swimming in the river. I enjoy delicious food, gardening, weightlifting, reading, and traveling to new places.
